I began making my own herbal salves because many of the salves I was finding in the health food stores contained preservatives and other chemicals. Some even contained petroleum products! Since our skin is our largest organ, and it absorbs what it comes into contact with, I did not want to use these salves on myself much less my children. I began to make my own salves using all natural oils, beeswax from our beehives, herbs that we grew in our garden or wildcrafted from our farm and pure essential oils.
I found that they were highly effective, even more so than I had hoped, with the added benefit that everything in them was healthy for our bodies. With 4 active boys I use my salves almost every day! Our jars of salves contain a generous 1.5 ounces.
