How do I keep them vibrant and luminous? Why do my mixed Acrylic colors tend to go "muddy" on the palette?
I am using mid-grade Winsor & Newton Acrylics. Not expensive but not really cheap either.
It depends on what colors your are mixing.
Certainly try using fewer colors. Try painting with Winsor red, blue, and yellow. See what that does for you. I try to keep my tubes of pigment to 6 usually per painting. More tubes and you're asking for trouble.
Any mixing will dull color some.
The more the colorsmixed are opposite each other on the color wheel (that is complementary or approaching that), the more quickly mixing them together will dull them. Examples: red with green goes dull super fast; they are complements, directly across from one another on the color wheel. Near compliments too, like green and purple.
Not cleaning your water often enough or your brush well enough will do it do.
If you don't know color theory well, my suggestion is to get a book and read up. One cannot know too much about color.
