How do people from the southern states of the USA feel about their image?
Every time I see an American movie or TV show that depicts people from the southern states, they are always "rednecks", "hillbillies" or "trailer trash". Even positive ones like "Fried Green Tomatoes" are very hokey and stereotyped.
Anyone who posts a question about incest on YA will get at least one smart-aleck reference to Alabama.
Do people from the southern states get fed up with this portrayal, or do you find it witty and amusing?
Are there any shows and movies we're not getting that depict people from the south as intelligent, sophisticated and deeply insightful people?
in as much as i have uyankee relatives who ar emuch mor eredencked than me it doesn't bother me.
we find it amazing that so many people don't know where the name redneck comes from they just follow the dumb media hype and we make money from it.
up to about 150 years a go everyone wore long sleeve shirts with the necks buttoned up for protection from the sun, and because like our northern cousins they did not have but one or two set sof clothern and the choice was longsleve and buttoned for the cold winters. so one suit for all weathers. when people began to move into georgia and florida(alabama was not a state or florida) they began to losten their shirts collars due to the humidity and heat resulting in sunburned necks or rednecks. this is th esource of redecks and has nothing to do with what garbage the news feeds you. georgia and florida craxckers cam eint use when drivers of teams of mules, or cattle used to use a long whip to control the animals which pulle dtheir wagons. thus georgioa or florida crackers.
