Question on feeding an infant/toddler solids...?
This is a question for my friend who has a baby. Her pediatrician said to feed her toddler one new ingredient at a time. The thing is, she thinks this means, for example, if she feeds her child cheddar cheese one week that she has to wait another week then go through the whole process again with mozzarella. Is she right? I mean, I think that she can give her baby any pasteurized cheese, but I'm no pediatrician. This also leaves the question, what about other cow's milk items like yogurt or milk? If she sees that her baby can handle cheddar cheese, doesn't it mean he can handle any other type of dairy? Or maybe how about a cherry tomato? If the baby can eat a cherry tomato, doesn't it mean he can have any kind of tomato (roma, heirloom, hothouse)? Etc. Etc. Etc with other food. I didn't realize feeding a baby was so complicated!
you can lump things together in categories. E.g. in cheese, what people are allergic to is present in all the cheeses you mentioned. So, although they taste differently, they are the same as far as allergies go.
So cheese one week, tomatoes another. Careful with tomatoes, btw. Is the child a baby or a toddler? She should work w the doc to get the right feeding schedule.
