where can I get green tomato's out of season?
I want to make fried green tomato's and you can't find them in the stores now....where can I get them?
They're hard enough to find in season. If you have a farmer's market near you go and talk to the vendors there who sell tomatoes. Some of them probably source their produce from a green house and can probably get some for you.
If you go to a speciality store, many of them carry green heirloom tomatoes which are firmer than ripe red ones even though they are actually ripe themselves. These should hold up to frying.
The tomatillo idea above is interesting but I don't know that I would do it because a tomatillo isn't even a relative of the tomato, it's a relative of the gooseberry. Although they would hold up to frying, I just don't know how close the taste would come to actual green tomatoes.
