Tapestries : Inspired Living
Wall tapestries have been in our lives since the 12th century. Tapestries were hung on castle walls, were used as table coverings and bed spreads and were even used as horse blankets or as ‘tarps' when moving furniture from place to place. Tapestry wall hangings have been with us through the ages: hand woven tapestries adorned entire walls of chateaux, villas, stately homes, manor houses, city halls, banquet halls, and churches, to name just a few. Wall tapestries have been passed down in families from generation to generation, for each to enjoy in their turn. Tapestries inspired generations, and were the social media when television, you tube and face book were not available. Large tapestries told stories to inspire the church goers on Sunday and festivals, and they brought beauty and serenity to a home during long days of winter, wars, and natural disasters and during the joyful family times of Christmas, Easter, births and birthdays.
If you have ever traveled in Europe, you cannot help but notice European tapestries everywhere. Tapestries wall hangings adorn restaurant walls, hotel lobbies, museums, art galleries, and if you are wandering the streets of Paris, Florence or London late in the evening, and peep into a window, you may be fortunate enough to spy a beautiful wall hanging tapestry nestled comfortably amidst old or contemporary furnishings. French tapestries exist in tandem with everyday ‘joie de vivre' living in France, Italian tapestries are part of the emotional lives of the Italians where family, wine, pasta and beauty all co-exist as one complete whole and European tapestries are part of the ‘carvery Sunday dinners' of the English.
So, how do tapestries fit into our lives today? In our hurried and harassed lives, raising children, advancing careers, eating packaged and fast foods on the run, catching the latest news with its reports of the latest disaster, getting ready for Christmas, organizing a birthday party for a loved one or just getting home after a very long day at work, we want to enter a space ‘away from it all'. Well, our home is our castle, isn't it? We want to come home to our own environment - a place where we can be safe, quiet, contained and inspired. We want to sit in the sanctuary of our own home, that we created – a reflection of our decorating taste. Times may have changed, but have they? Our human needs have not. Wall tapestries that inspired generations before us are used today to bring beauty, tranquility and happiness into our lives. A restful landscape tapestry will bring eternal summer into our homes. An Italian tapestry will bring back the beautiful memories of our travels in Italy or thoughts of someday visiting Europe, European tapestries will bring out the beautiful colors of Belgium, France and Spain, while hand woven tapestries or a custom tapestry that you had designed for the special wall space will not only create a beautifully decorated home that is your castle, but will connect you to the generations before you and those yet to come. Looking for inspiration? Heirloom European Tapestries has all the wall tapestry designs to create an environment fit for king, without the kingly prices.

What are the top 5 furniture vendors besides Thomasville? And how do they rank?
I am recently married and my husband and I are looking to invest in bedroom furniture that will last 50 years in durability as well as style. I love the new collection by Thomasville called Urban Retreat. If I have to spend the extra I will, but do I have to? Broyhill makes a design called Attic Heirloom. I like it but I'm not sure if the 'worm hole' look is exactly right. Also, from what I have been told, Broyhill was the first to come up with this look before everyone copied it - Is this actually correct? Also, how do the furniture vendors rank? For example, I like Thomasville and my husband liked the Broyhill - and a friend said why settle for a Toyota when I can have a Porsche. Is this a fair statement? I like this America/French Country look and it seems to be something that will be timeless for years to come. Can someone please help? Thank you in advance.
i dont know the top five but as a contractor who has worked in hundreds of luxury homes , i can offer these reccomendations, as they are the most commom brands fo high end furniture...for leather and upholstered furniture go with bernhard or henredon. For wood product go with stickley
