What is it about comets(Goldfish) and peas?
I current have 2, 1 year old sarasa comets in an 80 gallon tank and I feed them peas 1-2 times a week and they go wild, regular food they just eat and carry on foraging through the gravel and artificial plants on there merry little way, but when it comes to peas they race around there tank at 100mph looking for more.
another question I shell the defrosted peas and break the insides up as small as I can, and they seem to chew the pea spit it out gobble it back up a few times before the actually eat it, are they chewing the pea or trying to crush it up as best they can? are the even able to chew food? I read Comets have teeth but there more toward the back of there throat then the front of there mouth.
Clearly you've found their guilty pleasure! My fish go bonkers if I put something wiggly like bloodworms in.
The spitting it out is a form of mashing it up and chewing. It may be worth cooking them quickly before feeding them to soften them up if you're not already. I chuck a couple in a mug of just-boiled water before I pick them out and mash them up a bit.
