AGRICULTURAL ART CULTIVATES THE GLAMOROUS SIDE OF FARMING AT HEAVEN HILL FARMS 1ST ANNUAL "WHAT THE HAY" CONTEST
Could there be a renewed interest in the art of agriculture that will lead to fame and fortune farming? At Heaven Hill Farm & Garden Center in Vernon, NJ great prizes and local fame await creative hay sculptors and there will be bales of family fun to be had at the 1st annual What The Hay Contest to take place during the 2010 Pumpkin Land Festival.
The What The Hay (hay bale sculpting) Contest will take place September 18 & 19, 2010. On Saturday, September 18, from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm, hay sculpting teams will carve away at hay bales (each weighs 50 pounds) in the roadside fields of Heaven Hill Farm and Garden Center. On Sunday, September 19, the teams will continue to create their hay bale sculptures from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm. The contest will come to an exciting finale at 4:00 pm on Sunday when the hay art will be judged and the winning teams will be announced. Adult and child categories will earn prizes and bragging rights.
Visitors at the Pumpkin Land Festival can watch the progress throughout the weekend as hay "artists" build original sculptures from bales of hay. Hay art sculptures will remain on display for the duration of the Pumpkin Land Festival through October 31, 2010.
The What The Hay Contest is one of many country-style family activities to enjoy at Heaven Hill Farm's annual Pumpkin Land Festival. Additional festival fun includes old-fashioned hayrides to the Pick Your Own Pumpkin Patch, Pigtucky Derby Pig Races, Corn Stalk Maze, Hay Maze, Hay Crawl, Corn Box, Glass Bee Hive, visiting Farm Animals, Boo Barn , "Chicken Little" Chick Barn, Dancing Robot Show, Duck Racing, Vortex Tunnel and the Haunted Acres Hayride (Friday & Saturday nights in October).

How many pumpkins to grow to sell?
I'm going to grow connecticut field pumpkins this summer and I've ordered a lot of seeds and I have a lot of land to plant them on. How many pumpkins will I need to set up a little stand in a small town to sell them?
I worked at a small garden center in NC and we sold 3-4 of the large produce boxes each season. But since you have ordered a lot of seed and plenty of land, I would plant as much as I could care for. Hope this helps some
