Do I still need to trellis my cucumber plant if it's a bush variety?
I've planted a burp-less bush cucumber plant, and it's starting to get tall. It's at about 2 feet right now, and it's sending out little vines that stick straight out and look like they want to grab on to something. Since there's nothing there, they just curl and twist. The plant isn't falling over. It's not taking up much space at all, but I'm not sure if I should try to trellis it or not. Does anyone know?
Cucumber love to grab on something to balance themselves.
You can use bamboo sticks, or trellis if you have some.
They will rely on the sticks to support their body when it
has thicker and longer vines.
They will grow stronger and the body will be heavier; and when
the cucumbers arrived; the plant will be even more heavier. Because
the babies will carry a lot of water.
If you see the vines now, it means the the flowers are on their way;
and the cucumbers babies will be coming out soon.
You must make sure they have plenty of water supply and the cucumber
vines are not touching each other as they need rooms to enlarge themselves;
and they need good air circulation.
Happy gardening!
