Is it appropriate to give a gift to amazing instructors?

I haven't given gifts to instructors since elementary school, but I had some really amazing instructors last term in university. I've sent them e-mails, thanking them for being so amazing. I'm wondering though, for future reference, would it be alright to slip a gift card to a restaurant or something into a note for them? Not as a bribe - just as a thank you. Would this be appropriate?

I sometimes give extraordinary teachers small gifts. Usually I wait until the term is over, so they do not perceive it as being a bribe.
